How to relieve back pain at home is surprisingly useful thing to know. Think about it, how many times does the end of the week come, and something happens which makes it awkward to deal with over the weekend? Or you’re so busy, work, life takes over, and the problem takes a back seat. Back pain is no exception to appearing at inconvenient times, but there are some things you can do at home to ease your pain before you come in to see us.
First, the majority of back pain generally comes from a dysfunctional joint. You may have injured or hurt it somehow, so we need to get the inflammation down. The best way to do this is to ice it. Use an ice pack, and apply it to the painful area. Go for 30 minutes, take a break from it for half an hour or so and then reapply. Do this at least three times a day, but the more the merrier.
You can also use a topical analgesic like Biofreeze or Relief Assist. For best results, apply this first and then put ice on after. You can also take it out with you and apply to help you when you are not home if you like.
TENs units are also very helpful devices you can use at home to help. While they don’t fix the problem, they will help block the pain signals and give you a little extra time away from the pain. Simply place the sticky pads in the general area of your pain and leave on for 30 minutes. A general tip, always maintain control of the unit itself and do not let anyone else control the unit for you. You may end up with an unexpected shock!
Back braces are another thing you can use to help with lower back pain issues. When worn, they compress the lumbar spine which helps the joints to decompress and stabilize the spine. The brace basically takes the weight off the back and allows for speedier healing.
These are just four effective ways to help you manage your back pain, especially at times where you are unable to come in and see us. Hopefully they will help you.
To summarize, apply topical analgesic, ice for 15 minutes at a time, use a TENs unit for half an hour, and/or wear a back brace for an hour or so. These tools should help you manage your pain.

Been going to dr weasterman for over 15 yrs, every time i think its hopeless he gets me better, amazing place, amazing staff,i love this place, thank you.
Dr. Westerman is the finest, most skilled chiropractor I've ever visited. He is gentle, well-trained, a good listener, and never cajoles a patient into more treatment than is absolutely needed. He is generous with advice on diet & exercise, when asked. His office is pleasant, relaxing and always immaculate. His staff members are kind and efficient. In seven years of visiting NW Health Solutions, I've had only positive experiences. Though I've needed his services less frequently as the years go on - a testament to the long-term benefits of good chiropractic care - the office staff is still great about working me into the day for a quick adjustment whenever I feel I need it. I gladly give NWHS and Dr. Westerman my highest recommendation!
